The Mystery of the Concrete Corpse

I'm not alone in savouring the manifold incongruities of the Dungeness peninsula. From the soundtrack of Bittern, go-karts, machine-guns and train-whistle to the shacks both modest and tarty, the looming bulk of the industrial-monument power station, the tangle of pylons, the wrecked armoured vehicles and streamlined hollies....

But last week I was shown something new:

Like a Vesuvius victim face-down in the pebbles.

A concrete effigy, unsettling and mostly unnoticed.

No-one has so far been able to tell me how he got there or when, though the lichen suggests (I switch into forensic mode) a lengthy residence. And he's got trouble with his legs.

He must be an artwork.
