Rye Harbour

Birds sightings in the last week have included black-necked grebe still on Ternery Pool, red-breasted merganser on Long Pit and kingfisher on Harbour Farm. Lots of ducks, particularly wigeon, still though I could still only find one goldeneye, that on the pools by Harbour Farm Barns. The large flocks of golden plover and lapwing have been missing though, as the frozen ground means that they cannot feed on grassland worms during the night. This morning a flock of around 70 brent goose (in with about 150 cormorant) flew in from the south-east over the Beach Reserve though they looked as though they just kept going.
Still the odd insect around in the last week, though I imagine that this weather will have done for them by now, with common darter at Watch Cottage on the 27th and a red admiral on Harbour Farm on the 26th.
