Mystery Bird Map

This is a map of a bird that breeds in the RX area , showing the overseas locations of birds ringed (purple dots) or recovered (yellow dots) in UK. It comes from an amazing online resource from the BTO where you can look at species, years or counties - click here. The maps are in the Recovery summaries by species option.

For the identity of the species in the map above click here.

Events at Rye Harbour

The Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve will soon be receiving their Winter newsletter and the Events 2013 leaflet. If you are not a member you can see the Events leaflet by clicking here. And if you want to consider joining the Friends you can do so by clicking here! Or perhaps give a membership for Christmas. You can also pick up an Events leaflet or join the Friends at Lime Kiln Cottage on the nature reserve.

Self Portrait

A trail camera left out at Castle Water for five nights registered just one video, but it was the species I was after... just a shame it didn't start filming itself a little earlier!

Beach Reserve

Great selection of highlights today, offshore 2 Black-throated Diver and 34 Red-throated Diver gave close views out from crittall hide before heading west, the over wintering Spotted Redshank also showed well at ternery pool from parkes hide. Two Merlin were present along shore ridges near the old lifeboat house, the Little Stint was again roosting amongst 30 Ringed Plover on flat beach.

A large patch of Henbane flowered this year near Rye Harbour village and the seedheads are still present, some with seeds and some without. It looked attractive in yesterday's sun, but a decent photo seemed impossible...
