Oystercatcher v Herring Gull

Sit in a hide at Rye Harbour for half an hour and you will probably see some fighting, bullying and even predation. At the Denny hide today a herring gull swooped down and took an oystercatcher chick but its battling parents made no difference... the herring gull won 1:0.



I came across several of these rather nice solitary bees while looking for Limobius mixtus at Castle Water yesterday. My attention  was drawn to them by their high pitched buzz and striking green eyes. 


Mullein moth

My favourite caterpillar has to be the mullein moth, usually found feeding on the "woolly" leaves of greater mullein, but I did recently see one on water figwort.



Emperor Dragonfly

This has been on the old rx recently, this was just a try of the new site to see how it works? It's not a bad picture anyway...................................
